We are seeking an Equine Surgery Technician to join our team in the equine operating room. This position offers a unique opportunity to work part time assisting with surgical procedures on equine patients and part time caring for post-operative inpatients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for equine veterinary care and possess strong technical skills.
As an Equine Surgery Technician, you will be responsible for assisting the veterinary surgeon during procedures, preparing the operating room, preparing the patients, maintaining surgical instruments and equipment (cleaning, repairs, ordering, sterilizing, etc.). The candidate will be a leader in ensuring the comfort and safety of equine patients before, during, and after surgery. Anesthesia administration may be incorporated as a future goal depending on the applicant's skill level and motivation, however this is not formally part of the job description.
The successful candidate will have a background in veterinary technology and experience working with large animals, particularly horses. Candidates with only small animal experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment are essential.
