Licensed Veterinary Technician - Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital

We are seeking a licensed veterinary technician to work nights and weekend hours, is extremely independent, self motivated, has a team-based approach and mindset, and is interested in working in an innovative and challenging environment that will provide an excellent experience with equine and farm animals in all aspects of emergency and patient care.

What you will do:

• Manage after-hours admissions and discharges for the Equine/Farm Animal Hospital including emergency exams; monitor and assess conditions of all in-house patients in all wards (ICU, neonatal, and isolation), administer prescribed medications and regularly scheduled treatments as well as water, feed, milk cows and bed patients as needed.
• Run clinical pathology samples as needed; set up before, assist during, and clean up after all emergencies.
• Handle emergency and critical inpatients using sound judgment to best stabilize animals, at times, in the absence of a clinician;

  setup before, assist during, and clean up after endoscopy, ultrasound, imaging, and other equipment needed for medical and minor surgical procedures;

• Guide and instruct students on treating, handling, creating workups, and dispensing medications as needed;
• Handle emergency and critical inpatients, call in personnel as needed, and support quality patient care in all aspects of hospital operations; ensuring that patient charges entered in the Hospital's Information System (EzyVet) are complete and accurate.

Required Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution, plus NYS Licensure or eligible to be licensed required within 3 months of joining.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to learn the patient tracking software.
• Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously while under pressure and paying close attention to details.
• Candidate must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes, but are not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, as well as lifting and restraining patients.
• Up to 1 year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred working experience as a licensed veterinary technician in a large animal clinical setting.

One to two years of experience as a licensed vet technician (preferably with large animals, or other working experience with large animals.
